‘Finish The Job’: Victor Davis Hanson Warns 2026 Midterms Are At A Critical Tipping Point - AOL

Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson argued on Fox News’ “Hannity” that Republicans must treat the upcoming 2026 midterm elections as an urgent campaign to finish Donald Trump’s agenda rather than a typical congressional cycle.
During the broadcast, host Sean Hannity asked why voters who turn out in presidential years often stay home in midterms, pointing to the election of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) members since 2019 and to dozens more appearing on the ballot.
Hanson responded that many voters who support the administration have become complacent after seeing policy actions on the southern border, energy production, and crime.
“I think they’re just inured,” Hanson said. “They look at the Donald, they see Donald Trump, and they say, he’s president, and we like what he did on the border, and we like what he did with energy development, we like what he did with crime, we like everything he did, so we’re just going to sit back and watch TV.”
Hanson stated that conservative voters need to be reminded of the political stakes, describing their opponents as a serious threat to the country’s foundational values.
“They’re just complacent, and they need to be shaken up and say, this is an existential threat, these people don’t like you, they want to change the existence of the United States,” Hanson said. “They never liked its founding, they didn’t like it in its maturity, and they hate it now in the current, and they don’t want it to continue. And it’s going to affect you if you elect those people.”
When asked by Hannity what campaign message the Republican Party and Donald Trump should take directly to voters, Hanson outlined a strategy focused on finishing ongoing policy initiatives.
“I would say we’re only halfway done in this counter-revolution, this liberation from socialism,” Hanson said. “And we’ve made enormous progress, and if you stop now, and you let these people come in, they’re going to take us back to the Biden years and before. And we’re almost there.”
Hanson highlighted several areas where he believes the administration has made significant progress, including border enforcement, mass deportations, reducing crime, protecting the structure of the Supreme Court, and preserving the Electoral College.
“We’re right at the apex, we’re right at the tipping point,” Hanson concluded. “If you stop us now, these people are going to come in with a communist, socialist agenda. So get out. It’s really desperate. We have to finish the job.”
According to Hanson, candidates must present voters with a clear three-point message covering past accomplishments, future plans, and the consequences of an opposition victory.
